Supported Training for Employment Placement

The STEP program opened in November 1992.  It was the first 100% community-based behavior management and vocational training day program in the Bay Area.  STEP offers an alternative to the traditional site-based day program.

Our STEP program:

  • Is a premier behavioral program that teaches behavior management skills and assists our participants in learning social skills for success in their community
  • Utilizes the guidance of a licensed Behavioral Psychologist, who teaches our skills instructors techniques and tools that reduce the occurrence of maladaptive behaviors and encourage the teaching of replacement skills
  • Is a community-based day program serving individuals age 22 and older
  • Teaches job readiness skills on an individual basis
  • Encourages and models appropriate social and interpersonal skills
  • Provides paid work opportunities to participants
  • Offers social and recreational activities that promote self-esteem and peer interaction
  • Is operated by a 1:3 staffing ratio
  • Is funded by the Department of Developmental Services via the Golden Gate Regional Center system.
