Speak Out!

The Speak Out! program began in 2008 and is built upon a Communication Bill of Rights as developed by The American Speech Hearing Association's National Joint Committee for the Communication Needs of Persons with Severe Disabilities.  Opportunity for Independence believes that there is a direct correlation between behavior and communication.  We are dedicated to assisting our participants in gaining necessary tools to enhance their communication and, in turn, reduce maladaptive behaviors for success in the community. 

 Our Speak Out! program:

• Is tailored to individual cognitive abilities, needs, and skills levels
• Is led by licensed Speech Language Pathologists
• Uses evidence-based methods and techniques to enhance communication
• Includes OFI staff members in sessions so they may gain knowledge of the systems and procedures used to teach participants
• Is funded entirely by private donations and grants
