NOVA opened its doors in February 1997 as a day program for individuals who were not ready to join our STEP program. However, these participants still enjoy access to the community for social, recreational, community safety, and vocational training.
Our NOVA program:
- Is a premier behavioral program that teaches behavior management skills and assists our participants in learning social skills for success in their community
- Utilizes the guidance of a licensed Behavioral Psychologist, who teaches our skills instructors techniques and tools that reduce the occurrence of maladaptive behaviors and encourage the teaching of replacement skills
- Is a site-based day program serving individuals age 22 and older
- Teaches job readiness skills on an individual basis
- Encourages and models appropriate social and interpersonal skills
- Offers a variety of social and recreational experiences
- Is operated by a 1:3 staffing ratio
- Has a strong behavioral component, which emphasizes a reduction in maladaptive conduct
- Is funded by the Department of Developmental Services via the Golden Gate Regional Center system.
